The Malwitz’s moved to Minnesota in the early spring of 2017 from Texas. They came ready to outfit their brand new Lakeville home with some awesome outdoor living. Taking inspiration from a previous PHI Decks deck and porch, we worked to design exactly what they were going to need to make the most of outdoor Minnesota living.
Typical to many new home designs the house has an alcove on the corner with a door leading to the outside. This is a perfect set up to add a PHI three season porch. The porch was skinned in all LP Smartside trim to match the house and the interior shed style ceiling was finished off in pine tongue and groove painted white. We installed recessed can lighting and a fan to keep the air circulating. With this home being in a new development and a lack of large trees we opted to install Sunspace vinyl windows. This allows the versatility to have the openness of a screened porch, but be able to shut down a side on a cool windy day. Our client wanted the full view so we went floor to ceiling with the Sunspace windows. In order to meet code, we installed fascia mount rails. The interior decking is Azek Vintage Mahogany, pinstriped in Dark Hickory. The floor really pops with the walls and ceiling in white, it creates a very bright and open porch.
Leaving the porch we installed a nice size deck running the length of the house. We put in a wide 5’ staircase leading to a mid-landing, allowing the stairs to terminate perfectly at ground level. All the posts and fascia were trimmed in LP SmarTrim and painted to match the deck and porch. Similarly to the porch we installed Azek Vintage decking on the deck portion as well. The rail posts are TimberTech Radiance Rail sleeves with Westbury aluminum rails between. For the icing on the cake each post was wired with TimberTech’s DeckLites LED post light. This project was a great start to our 2017 season!
