The Rasmussen’s came to us in 2016 from a prior customer’s referral, with a vision of a large porch and deck to be added to their home. After providing a proposal the project was over their desired budget. So they took a step back to re-evaluate the project as a whole. We kept in touch periodically over the next year or so until they came to visit us at the Minneapolis Home and Garden Show in 2017.
They had decided instead of down scaling the project and doing it in 2016, to wait until 2017 so they could do it exactly how they wanted. We tweaked the original plan a bit and got to work. What sets this porch apart are the details. They wanted as big of screened windows as possible. So we started with 6×6 cedar posts, trimming around with Screeneze screening system. We then hand built a hip roof with a vaulted ceiling on the inside. Working around existing windows and getting the roof just right was no easy task. The PHI team methodically worked the roof in and then trimmed out the inside with cedar tongue and groove.
With the installation of some recessed can lights and a fan this porch is ready for any time of the day. On the far side we installed a privacy wall skinned in barnwood. This gives them a perfect spot for the TV so they can enjoy Twins and early season Vikings games. The deck comes off the porch and works its’ way to the garage service door giving them an option to go to the grass or the garage. The platform was built big enough and we added an outlet, so they can run their Traeger pellet smoker outside the door. To help keep the porch cool they installed some nice outdoor shades to block out the sun at mid-day. What an awesome fun, functional, custom porch!
